I moved to beautiful San Luis Obispo in 2001 to attend Cal Poly. I earned a Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2005 and immediately launched myself into what I like to call “The International Soul Searching Tour.” I traveled around the world, spent time volunteering and tried to figure out who I wanted to be. I became passionate about helping others and after combining this with my incessant need for creativity I found myself enrolled at The Paul Mitchell School, Santa Barbara. My passion for the beauty industry continues to grow and I have had the good fortune of being able to build a career in SLO at the enchanting Bluebird Salon.
What Inspires You?
I find the best inspiration when I least expect it! The striking colors and variety of textures found in nature; fashion from previous decades and the attitude it evokes; music, especially music from the 60’s; the smell of rain and the feeling of peacefulness that comes with it; fashion-forward, confident women.
What aspect of being a hair and make up artist do you most enjoy?
Having the ability to make others feel beautiful and confident is one of the greatest gifts. I love the relationships I have formed with my guests; it’s amazing what I learn from them! I also LOVE weddings and always feel honored to be able to create a total look for a bride on her special day.
What products can you not live without?
I love adding texture to hair whether it’s with a dry shampoo (Bumble & Bumble), texture spray (Bumble & Bumble “Surf Spray” or Paul Mitchell “Texturizing Sea Spray”) or wax (Paul Mitchell “Spray Wax”). For make up, I love well hydrated, luminous skin (MAC Strobe Cream and MAC Fix + Spray). I also am obsessed with blush; a lot of women shy away from it but it really pulls a look together and can be bright and fun or soft and natural. Some of my favorite blush colors are “Fleur Power” and “Prism” from MAC and “O-Glow Intuitive Cheek Color” from Smashbox.
My personal style icon is:
There is no way I could only choose one and it’s quite an eclectic mix: Audrey Hepburn; Bridgette Bardot; Gwen Stefani; Nicole Ritchie (post Paris Hilton); Victoria Beckham
