There seems to be a never-ending amount of products for creating glowing skin on your face but what about the rest of your body? I’m talking about that JLo glow from head-to-toe people! Whether you’re prepping for all of your pre-wedding events, attending a special occasion or just love looking flawless, read on and learn how to achieve glowing gorgeous skin in five easy steps.
1. Fresh start: Exfoliate.
Start your glow routine by getting rid of the old (cells) and making room for the new. Exfoliating your skin can help avoid ingrown hairs, prevents dead skin cells from clogging follicles which may result in breakouts, keeps your skin hydrated and soft and also evens out your skin tone. Tressa Esty, MPAS, PA-C from DermaSpa MED recommends using Amlactin Moisturizing Lotion about a month before your event. This unique product not only retains the skin's natural moisture, but also exfoliates the skin using salicylic acid. Your skin is left hydrated, soft and smooth!
2. Rehydrate.
Once you’ve kicked your old cells to the curb, be sure the rehydrate your skin when bathing with an ultra-moisturizing product such as CeraVe Hydrating Body Wash, also recommended by Esty. This gentle foaming formula goes beyond cleansing to comfort skin and repair and restore your skin’s natural protective barrier.
3. Tan it.
Applying a subtle self tanner is an easy way to elevate your look and give your skin a healthy glow. You should be super particular in which self tanning products you use as you don’t want to end up looking bright-orange or streaky. I have tried oodles of self tanner products and by far my favorite is Skinny Tan Tan and Tone Oil. This product if fanstastic for a natural looking tan, I even apply it to my face. Formulated with organic coconut oil and guarana, this ultra-hydrating oil soaks into, and repairs dry skin, leaving you with a glowing complexion. It’s easy to apply, streak free and the best part is you can apply it and get on with the rest of your day because it doesn’t transfer or leave you smelling like fake tan. Whichever self tanner you end up choosing, be sure to try it well ahead of your event to make sure it’s the right fit for you.
4. Moisturize over and over...
After you’ve let your self tanner work it’s magic and rinsed it off, hydrate your skin daily with an illuminating moisturizer. My very favorite body lotion is Burt’s Bees Radiance Lotion. This magical lotion is specially formulated for deep nourishment and contains mica, a light-reflecting mineral that gives skin a hint of shimmer. It’s fantastic to wear on the daily! Keeping your skin moisturized regularly will also help keep your tan looking on point and reduce dry skin flaking off in uneven patches, leaving you with a blotchy tan.
5. You Glow Girl!
Take your glowing skin one step further by applying a body glow. This final step truly makes the difference between everyday skin and celebrity-status-how-does-she-look-that-good skin. There are tons of body glow formulas out there but hands down the best is Red Carpet Kolour formulated by celebrity makeup artist Joanna Schlip. I am literally obsessed with this product ever since meeting Joanna at an industry event several years back. Joanna works mainly with celebrity clients and is very aware of how products translate on camera. Which is why this product is perfect for special events, weddings, anyplace you will be heavily photographed. This body glow gives you the right amount of luminosity for the camera, hydrates your skin, smooths away blemishes and is water resistant and transfer-free. Apply about 5 minutes before dressing and you’re good to glow!
